African Art In-Stock
A characteristic of African art are the wonderfully elegant utilitarian objects such the as a wide variety of carved headdress wearing couples, walking sticks, wooden vessels, stools, beds, masks, abstract stone art, and carved animals, wall frames & plaques.
Each object is designed to satisfy a specific function but also to provide visual as well as tactile delight. We feature a fine selection of mahogany, ebony, & walnut wood African art pieces. As well as verdite, serpentine, stearite (soapstone or shona stone).
Traditional African Tribal Art
Traditional African crafts portray the values and spirituality of the people. African themes and shapes have been incorporated into their work, making it a unique and one of a kind handcrafted artifact. Each item is handmade out of (usually) one solid piece of rock or hard wood with simple tools by very skilled native tribal craftsmen in the primitive conditions of a remote village. The men concentrate on wood carving and rock sculpture, whilst the women have mastered weave-work and pottery.
Africa in Transformation
Africa is changing from a tribal society to a modern one making more dramatic progress than the world has ever seen. In Africa, traditional art is becoming a thing of the past as quickly as the continent changes. With the disappearance of many traditions and other aspects of African culture, works of traditional African art are becoming more and more scarce. Only a few passionate collectors are able to recognize if a piece is genuine or fake. Let us be your source for African art & tribal home decor.
